The Thyla Pouch! 

The Thyla pouch, is a smaller fit Large, the size range is 9kg to 17kg.

I have spent 8 months refining this pattern, it started one late night after taking measurements from my daughter, then sketching, then drafting, and it fits my daughter like a glove, after many revamps. The larges are ready for sale for the March stocking ( Date unknown yet). The smalls and mediums and extra large are going through extensive testing for the next six to 8 months.

It is a trim fitting nappy and the most exciting part is that is still has the same absorbency that you have come to love from Bare Rumps nappies!

The name Thyla pouch comes from "Thyla" Thylacine, and Pouch, being the arms that the mother tiger carries her young, much the same as a kangaroo pouch.

I am going to put every person that entered the "Name my pattern competition" into random.org some time this weekend when I get the chance, and draw a winner that way, there was just not one name that really stood out to me, so I have combined a few entries, thank-you for the inspiration! And thank-you for helping me name Bare Rumps's Pattern the Thyla pouch, owned and designed by Jerry Red.

I am sewing today in the studio, I have around 40 finished, getting to some creative designs this arvo. I dropped my Auction art exhibit nappy of at the space this morning, and the ladies are doing a fine job of curating down there.

I hope you love the design, and are willing to give it a crack come March when it is for sale.

"The Weld valley art exhibit"

Hi ladies!

This yr is just kicking off for me in 2012, the studio is in full swing, and "Weld Echo" is just around the bend.

 In preparation to this yrs entry, I have been getting some time away in the bush drawing inspiration, hitting the studio last night was a heap of fun working with ideas surrounding the "Weld".
 It IS my most favourite nappy made to date,
I have a strong attachment to this one!

"Weld Echo" is a collaborative exhibition of "Weld Valley" inspired work, the gallery is located in Salamanca arts centre in the Long gallery.
 It runs from the 17th till the 28th of Feb, so if your down this way, head on over some time and check out Bare Rumps nappies on display.

The work on display is in reference to a 10 yr community campaign to end the devastating effects of old growth logging in this South Tasmanian environment. The Weld Valley remains one of the most diverse and least exploited native environments in Tasmania.


6 yrs ago the community built a great big ship out of wood and tin in the middle of the access road. It was a direct action approach to stop the roads being put through the valley, giving access to eventually log, the ship while it lasted was quite a spectacular image, made out of wood and tin, mast and deck dwarfed by the towering trees above.

My theme is a response to the pirate ship, thinking it would be a rocking theme for a unisex theme nappy!

The bamboo velour is created by a tie dye artist, that had been working with this medium for many yrs, his results are out standing, he has an exclusive contract to dye for BR nappies only Australia wide.

    BR brainchild touching base from the sunny Cook island's 5 star resort, it's a lovely 25 degree's here and there are wild native men dancing for me.

    My tiny backyard, with our $25 blow up swimming pool, sweltering 30 degree's (hey - be easy on me - I am nearly Tasmanian!) The wild mini half-naked native child is happily splashing around learning to swim in 4 inches of water, while mum is sinking a cold Corona brew or two in one hand and a fly swat in the other, sporting a wide brim hat without a care in the world! Well maybe one or two cares, but that can be addressed at a later date because at this very moment...

    I got my automatic snaps press set up today. The thing looks like it came out of a World War I Russian factory (Thanks for the description Cobi - pretty spot on!) It's a crazy looking machine! No more man's hands for me!
    
    
    I am back in the studio 4th of Feb. and working through 'til March, going for a good public stocking. I have been so wrapped up in custom orders the last 6 months it has not given much room for stockings. BUT thats all changing this year!

    I will be releasing my own nappy pattern! Eeek! I hope you all love it! It's fitted to my daughter, as that's what most pattern-makers do right? My daughter is tall and slender, I have though made good adjustments for it to fit a wide range of toddling toddlers!
    
    
    The larges are ready to go, they have been tested on Paige and also one other toddler that resides local for 5 months now with quite a few adjustments along the way. The mediums and smalls are what I have been working on and am currently adjusting. They are still going to need a good 5 months testing, and just starting that process now. So at this stage, only the larges are going to be going on sale for the first half of the year. So keep an eye on them come early March!

    I had a little look last night, and there are two entries I would like to merge together. Not too late to get your names in still! I Will announce the pattern name at a later date - when everything goes on preview via the website a few days early of stocking night.

Help me name BR's future edition to the family!

Maybe you thought by the heading I was pregnant?!?


Well truth be known, I have been baking something - but the non screaming and burping type! >.<


Many of you know I have been working on my own pattern over the last 8 months, and to them who do not... Well, you know now!


It's been a slow going process between motherhood, and being in the studio, and the sheer fact it takes ages to draft your own pattern! Nonetheless I have made steady progress though these many months. Every few weeks I find myself opening a nice bottle of red, having a glass, and hitting the studio: drafting and cutting, wasting a little more minki, oops! And a little more! ( My pile of "duds" is getting quite impressive!)


This making a pattern business is tricky! I have mocked up, frocked up and sewn up half a dozen patterns - all not quite fitting... but... the last one I think I finally cracked it!


 And that was just the large ones! Oh dear! Now I need to start on the mediums, and then the smalls! I could fairly say it might take me a whole year to get a full range of sizes!


ANYWAY!


It's 1:00am and I cannot sleep - I am a late owl!
 My brain is busy as a little madhatter, bumble bee!
So I figure it's a good time to blog.


I am very close to finishing up on the custom orders for the year, and thinking about the holidays: what am I thinking about doing during my holidays? Spending a good chuck of time getting this pattern fit for 2012!

I need a name for my nappy pattern!


I figure I want to draw inspiration from the Thylacine tiger. This is what inspired the Bare Rumps logo: A stylised image design inspired by the real tiger's paw print.

So!

I will draw on one name I like the most as the winner, and that name will become the name of my pattern, and as a token of my appreciation will be giving out the exclusive password to my website so that when I am activating items under lock and key before stocking time, you will have 20 odd minutes of leisurely time of carting 2 nappies from my first 2012 stocking!


I am back to work on the 2nd of Feb. in the studio, and working towards a good size stocking for March.

Well it's a wrap for BR for the year!

Most of you know from my FB post that it's now officially a wrap to the end of the year for me. I posted my last auction custom spot over the weekend. I am still making nappies 'til the end of the year privately for my co-op, there will still be photos uploaded to my fan page if you feel like seeing my latest creations. But from now on after this blog it may echo on my FB wall! I will still be replying just every few days from now on.

Really looking forward to finishing it up and having a well deserved break! This year has been consumed with sewing, ordering, posting orders, late nights scrapbooking images, stocking anxiety, (no seriously - the first few stockings were windows open and a frozen bag of peas on my forehead!), learning new ways of improving my nappies, laughing, and crying, could not leave that part out. I am sure once or twice my machines have been in such a state I have had a few wet cheeks! Oh... I forgot to mention all while looking after a 1 to 2 year old baby girl full-time being a sole parent! Who said women are simple creatures...?

I wanted to blog a few images to end the year with the nappies I really enjoyed making in the last few weeks. I am finding now that I am much more confident in my work now that I have mastered a few techniques through trial and error, so at late I have been finding myself give room for my nappies to be quite creative.
