Testers

So the small tester will be posted next week - gosh they scrub up alright with a booster in them! A little photo before they go off to their new homes to be washed, pooped in, and washed some more. In the spirit of giving I decided to give two away, which gave the girls that entered to be testers a wonderful chance of being a BR tester.

Wow so it is nearly the end of the year !

What a massive amazing year it has been personally with spending time with my new friend Paige. I look forward to next year pottering away in the studio and offering Bare Rumps nappies, to come home to you and the special little ones in your life.

BRING ON 2011 - "Year of the Rabbit" - a good time to be creating art!!!

Getting ready to tie dye

Another one

A splash of colour!

I went out and got every thing I need today for dyeing! I feel like a little kid again, I have not dyed since I was 13!!!  I am a little excited if you cannot half tell, and will blog pics of my material tonight... Fingers crossed it is not too much of a disaster! :) Wish me luck!!!!

Todays delivery.

It's always exciting when parcels arrive from America, top row flanellette, and my fave childhood books - Dr Seuss!!! Just have to make nappies with that! :)

A OOAK I have been working on this morning.

OOAKs I make will be making available to buy by auctions next year.

I am finding myself getting carried away with ideas and love the thought of putting a many hours into each nappy and offering them as well as other nappies that will be reproduced.

I have been using micro-fleece today and I must say I like working with it much better than suede-cloth.
The fleece is super soft and cuddly!

Ruffles!

Today I have been working on some ruffles, my best mate came over "Jekka cat" and we gas bagged together about life in general, love, and her future adventures with a beautiful cottage she put a offer on yesterday.

Just a few taster pics I am working on this week below.

I have quite a few more in the making but I am keeping them a surprise!
It is going to be sooooo hard keeping them away this blog but I will try my hardest until they are finished.

I got my first tester in the mail today, the VHC is off to a new home, were it will be loved, tested and tested some more. I have had to cut down on one layer of bamboo with my boosters which I am a little sad about, my sewing machine simply will not withstand the thickness of the booster I originally wanted, and would need a industrial machine :( Am quite interested to see how long they will last with out the extra layer, ( was getting 5 hours out of the last boosters ) I have a pet hate for small boosters, I like a nappy I can confidently leave the house and know it's going to stand the test of time.

On the home fnt, went to town today and it was CRAZY town, seriously shopping mania, will not be doing that again  until after christmas, but came home to some nice packages, fairy fabrics ( squirty bottles for dyeing), and a material shipment from the states, woot woot. All the supplies are coming together nicely.

A true OOAK nappy

This little beauty was made in the studio last night. I am playing around with ruffles (with a bit of a edge) I have never seen any nappies like this ever made before, so girls... you know where you seen it first ;)

I had so much fun making this one. The sewing will be improved (a few places its a bit so-so) but I guess you get that playing around with new ideas, and you are still learning. I hope you all love it! It's quirky, fun and for that unique little special girl x

Some of my fave prints

My obsession with buying MCNs has been replaced with buying material!!! This is my current fave (changes every week) I love bright, eye catching material, here is a bunch that has just been pre-washed hence all the wrinkles. This material will all be future cloth nappies! :)

A true newborn baby nappy

Here is a true newborn nappy made this morning for a wonderful cyber friend that is about to have a baby any minute and it very ready to give birth,  can any one guess who it is? I will give you some clues, her and her man could possibly win the hottest couple with children award voted in baby magazine of the year, she has red hair, and is more than ready to give birth!!!! Who am I???

It's Stef Ellis! LOL

This print is just divine :)

I love the feel this material conveys: timeless beauty, it possesses a hint of sentiment...

Sewing, sewing... learning, learning..!

Boosters

So I personally feel that boosters make a nappy...

Seriously I do not care what a nappy looks like (pretties are just a bonus) just as long as it can hold up for at least 3 hours.

My "pet hate" boosters are those that last only an hour or two... Gah!!!

So here at Bare Rumps I really do aim to make the thirstiest boosters I can possibly make with out the added bulk.

This morning I was playing around with a few different styles and layering, and fingers crossed i have it right, Paige (my daughter will be the test of that tonight).

Here is a snap to show you their thickness.

A few naps made up this week (testers for my daughter and friends)

A few more testers I have made this week (some of them yet to have boosters)...

It is way too hot for me today,  so I have opted out of the studio and decided to blog instead.... and if you cannot half tell, hot weather is not my fave (hence why settling in Tassie was so appealing!)

Sitting down now to blog and sink a few Coronas (which are always brought out on a hot day!)

Major girly alert!!!

A taster of what was born in the studio late last night.... Somehow the night owls have returned which is a good sign, it means I am more settled and refreshed.

I moved house three weeks ago and the lead up to it, and shortly after, was in bed by 8.00 (unheard of) , so when I am finding myself awake at 1.30 in the morning and getting tired, it's a good sign.

I just love the pinks in this nappy, it really is "girly overload!"
Cupcakes and candy... Mmmmmm! YUM!!!

Close up of the detail

This is a size small. I will be offering 4 sizes: newborn, small, medium, and  large.

After playing around with  4 nappy patterns, this is the one I am happy with.  This is a "fattycakes design" (changed a little bit to suit what I like personally in a nappy) which I have been in contact with the designer of the pattern and she is more than happy for me to make nappies out of her design !

Unisex Nappy

This is the full photo of the nappy - these are my first EVER nappies I have made completely with all the nice material (Paige will be the tester of this one).  Previously I had been making them out of just plain cotton, so it is exciting to get to the real material and get this show on the road!

I am pretty happy to announce testers will be going out by the end of the year. I am working on them in the next three weeks and look forward to doing a lottery to choose testers. I have decided to send out 8 tester nappies!!!!!  4 of them will be random lucky testers and the other 4 will be ladies of my choice who are VERY experienced with MCNs.

It's exciting girls!  It is happening! And it feels so great to be creative again after just being mother (breast feeding, sleep deprivation, etc).  which is a serious art with its own as you all know! Now the job of finding the balance between artist and mother... I get the feeling there will be plenty of late nights ahead of me in the studio.

Thank god I have no man around to make more mess for me - Gee Whizz now THAT would just be another thing to juggle!

Hand-stitched Gold

An idea for "OOAKs" for auction in the future with detailed hand-stitched gold thread on them.

Bushka the british blue

This is my other baby... Yes, a CAT! She snuck into the studio (she is not allowed in there ) so I took a photo of her checking out the space.

"Out you go now Bushka!!"

Bushka was born on my birthday, and my daughter was conceived on my birthday, and is part of my lovely team: "Team Red!"

I made a nappy today!!!!

Yes, it is a little dodgy (just a bit short on the elastics) but it will be fine for my daughter!!!! Practice... practice practice!

The studio

Here is one corner of my workspace that was organised this morning. It was a lot of fun folding all the material! Big shout-out to Gushi Soda who came and drunk coffee and tinkered in the studio with me.

Another fine example of a WAHM:  Abbey putting the finishing touches on the BR label.

I FEEL A SEWING STORM COMING!

So now I have every thing I need to make a complete nappy!!! Yeeehaaa!!!

I just want to get sewing today, but am busy being a mum, and squeezing in a little computer time whilst Paige sleeps...

I was amazed at Green Beans' packing abilities - there was so much stuff crammed into the boxes! Check out the previous posts to see the pics :D

Kam

My new friend called "Kam"! A.K.A "Snap Press"!

Snaps!

There was so many pretty colours and struggled with picking them so I got every available colour! That's SO my style when it comes to colour :)

Stock arrived today!!!

Have you ever seen something this cute ?

Tiny Mini Designer Nappy!

I made this yesterday intended to fit a cabbage patch doll (as I am doing a range of nappies for your babies babies ) but somehow I most defiantly underestimated the pattern and sized it way too small!!!!! It would not even fit a cabbage patches leg !!! It was so small and fiddly to sew, but I still had a blast doing so. Methinks this may be the smallest nap I will ever make! :P

Patterns of pink and sorts

Here is a few of the nappy outers I have been cutting out in the last few days, getting ready for my stock from Green Beans Oz to arrive next week.

I am very excited!!!

I have been making heaps of "dummy" practice nappies, and I am certainly getting better!

Patterns of pink

Just playing around with a bit of appliqué -  my beast of a sewing machine does a wonderful job at this.

I have been really inspired the last few nights. Last night I even went to bed and got up a hour later to get sewing. I am seriously in love with this material in the pic - I want to wall paper a nursery wall out of it!!!

The back of the blanket

VHC (very hungry caterpillar )

This blanket is a one off size cot blanket made for a lovely lady called Rox, the best nappy nabbing granny I know :D

I will be making these in the future but not as big as this one.

It is quilted with nice thick wadding and backed with minki dot, this blanket is so seriously cuddly!

Todays creations

Ever crave about going to a good disco, but do not find the time busy being mom? Well worry no more! Simply crank the music, pop this nappy on bubs, pull out the fluro sticks, and get partying! This nappy screams party! I am in a bit of a party mood today.

One just for the girls

We know how much we love girls in pink... This nappy reminds me of my daughter Paige all over! It is bright, cuddly, and has a hint of smiles, just like her... I cannot wait to sew this nappy up!

Boy naps

Here is some material I just love!

Do you think it will make a good boy nappy?

So this is what came out of the sewing wirl wind last night

Apples!

Gotta love them! This is a unisex set, size medium, and I love these colours personally! I love blacks and reds together, and the hint of green pulls it together neatly. This reminds me of a fresh Tasmanian spring.

Sewing machines!

I am here!!!

I have landed in the world of making Modern cloth nappies.

Blog-a-thon here I come! :)

Here at my blog you are going to find all my work, my inspiration, tasters of what will be at the stockings, updates, works in progress, give-aways, FOLLOW THE PROGRESS AND WORK OF BARE RUMPS NAPPIES and of course a bit of my journey along the way.

I got sewing on this project last night, its a "VHC" ("Very Hungry Caterpillar") quilt. It will be a cot-sized blanket quilted on one side and the backing (against bubba's skin) will be dot minki.

Mmm yum! The minki is so lush, thick and warm is to sure to lull the little one to sleep.

Find me on Facebook here!
